Ryan Finley is a man who was forced to make such a decision after his wife Jill ended up in coma.

It was Ryan who found her unresponsive and not breathing. He rushed towards her and did all in his power to help her regain her consciousness until paramedics arrived. He even performed CPR and prayed for a positive outcome although he knew the chances were slim.

Paramedics managed to get Jill back to life, but her heart was weak and her breathing was slow. She was rushed to the Oklahoma Heart Hospital and placed in a suit that lowered her temperature to minimize the damage to her oxygen-starved brain. Unfortunately, she sunk into a coma.

For days, Ryan stayed beside his wife

Ryan prayed every day. He never lost hope, but days turned into weeks and he was told that Jill’s chances were equal to none. He was then asked to consider doctors switching her off life support.

He wrote about that day in his diary and his words are heart-breaking, to say the least.

“Today could be the worst day of my life. I essentially have to decide whether or not she will die or not,” Ryan wrote, according to TODAY. He tried to put himself in Jill’s place and believed she wouldn’t want to live her life like that so he made the call.

The entire family said their goodbyes, and the moment the machine was turned off, Jill was still there. Doctors explained that she wouldn’t die right away as she was going through the “last rally.”

By 11:45 PM, Jill became restless

At that moment, Jill started mumbling. To the disbelief of her husband, who was experiencing immense heartbreak, she told him to get her out of there and take her to Melting Pot or Ted’s – two of her favorite Mexican restaurants.

Ryan knew his loved one would make it, no matter how crazy that sounded. And he was right. Jill breathed on her own and went through a heart surgery and rehabilitation.

Speaking of the time she spent in coma, Jill explained that she didn’t remember anything but had issues with her short-term memory and pronouncing certain words. Otherwise, she felt fine and was ready to grab this second chance God has given to her.

The couple plans to make most of the miracle and promised to cherish the days they have together

The couple are thankful they are still together and are going stronger than ever before. “We cherish each day, each minute, each hour now,” Jill told TODAY. “Not that we didn’t before, it just puts it more in perspective.”

It is not January anymore, but I’m one of those people who gets started with their New Year’s resolutions a little bit later! The gym is full of people on Jan 2nd and I’ll be nowhere near that gym. I’ve already caught the flu there years ago, exactly in January, so no thanks.

Instead, I like the step by step approach. I like to build consistency. I’m so over that get-it-over-with attitude that got me into trying the keto diet last year, so I can whine about it in this blog post. Another lesson learned.

Now I’m older, more tired, but also wiser. And I know better. I invest my time and energy into building and maintaining habits that support my life and make it easier and more exciting on a daily basis. One of the things I wanted to do this year is to take better care of my health. As you might know, I have a toddler at home and keeping up with him and lifting him 426 times a day definitely requires me to be in better shape.

So I thought…I need better habits in my life, habits that will make me fitter. Well, I decided I wanted to look into the lives of women who already did have what I wanted – a strong physical body that can lift a 30-pound toddler and was feminine as well. I wanted to know: What do women who are always fit do every day? What do they eat? How much do they train? Do they rest at all?

Unlike many years ago, when you could only learn these things from the fit people you personally knew or from magazines that shared 100% verified celebrity diets and workout plans – you can now go on Youtube or Instagram and simply observe. There are many women sharing what they eat, what they do and how they work out.

These are my observations and some lessons we can all learn from women who stay fit no matter what time of the year it is.

5 HABITS OF WOMEN WHO ALWAYS STAY FIT

1. Joy in Exercise: A Key Fit Women Habit

This is the number one thing I noticed about those women. They all worked out 4-5 times a week and all did different types of exercise – some weight lifting and others ballet, it did not matter.

However, they all worked out because they liked it. And you can see it in their attitude.

They look forward to working out and it makes them feel good. I also observed they all switch up their workouts and listen to their bodies. They rest when they need rest and seek variety.

If you’re unmotivated to exercise and think of it of something you “have to do”, rather than something you want to do for yourself – experiment! Try different classes and see what you enjoy! Then make a workout schedule for yourself and switch things up once you get bored. No workout plan is going to work forever – you always need to adjust and listen to you.

2. Joy in Exercise: A Key Fit Women Habit

Women who always stay fit don’t make a big deal of walking 10,000 steps every day… They simply do this, because it’s the natural thing for them to do. Not because they need to stay lean.

So if you’re struggling with getting or staying fit – add more non-exercise movement to your life. Maybe walking your dog, gardening or cleaning your home – whatever comes naturally, don’t put it off or “batch it” for the end of the week – just do it today. A little bit every day goes a long way.

3. Kitchen Creativity: A Delicious Fit Women Habit

Another thing I noticed was that all these girls actually spent quite a bit of time preparing their meals. And they liked spending that time and coming up with new recipes and yes, eating them too!

Cooking for me is also something I enjoy and I must say I enjoy my healthy recipes just as much as my pasta recipes. If not even more.

So spend some time every day preparing your meals and cooking. It doesn’t need to take hours…you can prepare everything you eat in 30 minutes and have leftovers the next day.

Once you learn how to combine things and which flavors go well together you’ll love the process so much more and you’ll actually want to do it. It’s like meditation.

And make it enjoyable – listen to music, to a podcast, audiobook or watch your favorite Youtube videos!

4. Restful Recovery: A Crucial Element of Fit Women Habits

That’s right! Rest and recovery are extremely important when you’re trying to get stronger and build muscle. So I was pleasantly surprised these women actually had quite a few rest days planned in their workout routine.

Some even worked out “only” 3 times a week. Which, let’s be honest isn’t a small amount, but if you’re like me 4 years ago your mentality would be: “If I can’t go to the gym 5-6 days a week, it’s not worth it”. And they prove: it is!

You can go to the gym even once or twice a week, or train at home – and it will make a difference. You have to start somewhere, you need to listen to your body and rest when you need to!

5. Lifelong Interests: How Fit Women Keep Life Exciting

The last thing I noticed fit women do was that they do interesting things on a daily or weekly basis! (sidenote: I read that now and “fit women” sounds so cringy, but what else can you call these admirable creatures – unicorns?)

These women don’t just sit around getting bored – they keep their life exciting and interesting by trying out new things and having hobbies outside the gym.

I think this habit is so underrated! When you actually go out and do stuff, when you intentionally make your life more exciting on a daily or weekly basis you stop obsessing about things that you don’t have right now…Like a perfect body or abs. Like a perfect diet…You just do your best every day, because it makes you feel good and because you want that energy to do all of those exciting and fun things.

So make sure to plan something fun this week and really do it! Something you’ve wanted to do for a while but never found the courage for and have been putting off for a while.

Just like you can’t expect to eat a ton of fat and salt, and not have heart problems later in life. Our bodies just don’t work that way. Developing a healthy routine will keep you feeling great not only today but in the long term as well.

Drink A Ton of Water

I drink a lot of water. Drinking water and staying properly hydrated is part of living a healthy lifestyle. It’s great for your skin, eyes, and brain health. Plus, drinking plenty of water removes bloat, helps keep your stomach full and so much more. Staying hydrated doesn’t have to be hard. Wear A Fitness Tracker

Most fit women wear some type of fitness/activity tracker. Activity trackers give you a lot of data about your daily health. This makes it really easy to see how you’re doing as you adopt healthier habits. For example, most people aren’t burning as many calories as they think they are each day. Wearing an activity tracker allows you to easily track the calories you’re burning throughout the day so you can eat accordingly. I’ve tried a few fitness trackers over the past couple of years but my currently I’m a huge fan of the Garmin Forerunner 245.

Move Around

Fit women tend to move around a lot throughout the day. I’m always finding a way to get in extra steps or to simply just move around. To be honest, you don’t even need to be moving around that much. Recent studies have shown that simply standing up can have health benefits. This is especially important if you have a job that requires a lot of sitting. Taking standing breaks or short walks around the office will help keep your body active.

Eat Whole Foods

If I’m being perfectly honest, I don’t feel like I eat overly healthy. But I would say that on an average weekday (weekends tend to be different) about 75% of my food is healthy. I do my best throughout the week to eat clean, whole, plant-based foods. Basically, I try to eat food in its least processed form. Eating this way helps to limit the amount of fat, salt, and sugar entering my body. I do eat a small number of processed foods each day (hello, I’m human!) but it’s definitely limited.

Limit Alcohol

Most fit women limit how much alcohol they consume for a number of reasons. The number one reason being the excess calories and sugar in wine, beer, and spirits. But alcohol also contributes to bloat and feeling heavy which is not what you want on say, cardio day. Many fit women workout between 4-6 times a week so there is never really a good time to feel the negative effects of alcohol.

Exercise Anywhere

Fit women don’t need a gym to exercise. Most fit women will find a way to workout anywhere. So many people use the excuse that they can’t get to a gym or that they don’t have space at home to workout. But really, there is always a way to exercise and be active. Whether it be running outside, joining a team, going for a walk, yoga, doing a home workout, etc there is always something to do and fit women recognize that. I use the streaming service, Beachbody On Demand, so I can stream or download a workout and truly do it anywhere I wish. One of the best healthy habits you can develop is a fitness routine that doesn’t limit you. You can be active anywhere!

Stretch

Stretching every day is so important, especially if you are exercising regularly. And if you want to live the fit and healthy lifestyle, then you have to be exercising. But so many people forget about stretching. Or they forget to stretch both before and after a workout. Go to bed early

Everyone knows that it’s important to get a good night’s rest. But what is equally important is the act of going to bed early. People who go to bed early tend to worry less, be more productive, and have an easier time maintaining a healthy weight. Going to bed early means more energy, and people who have more energy tend to be more active which makes maintaining a healthy weight easier. And I’m not making this up, there is real research here. Try going to bed before 10 pm and see what it does for your health.

I nod, listening as his steps recede.

The island’s final day promises clear skies and calm seas. The storm has passed, leaving a quiet peace in its wake. No patients to counsel, no crises to manage. Just one last pool party to draw everyone together for a farewell.

But this morning, Kierra disabled her tracker again, igniting a suspicion in me that she’s up to something secretive.

Therefore, my plan to join Noah at the beach includes a slight detour.

Exiting my room swiftly, I divert from the beach trail, heading north instead.

Toward the stronghold of Linus Solomon.

Yes, I had Bruce check it before. But my need for control gets the better of me; I must see it for myself.

Kierra’s account from yesterday is full of holes. Why venture out in the midst of a storm? And how did she end up so far from our accommodation?

If only Noah could shed some light on her reasons, perhaps I wouldn’t feel compelled to investigate. Yet, his unwavering faith in her does little to ease my concerns.

After a fifteen-minute walk, I find myself at Linus’s fortress once again. I enter the code: 74291

First, the air hisses, followed by the unlocking sound.

Stepping inside, I leave the door ajar, wary of being trapped in this ominous space.

The absence of Linus and my colleagues renders the place even more daunting, a sterile, dimly lit dungeon.

Scouring the kitchen, I open every drawer, searching for any clue that might justify Kierra’s peculiar actions, clinging to hope for some rationale.

Everything appears untouched since our departure.

Except for a startling detail…

A reddish stain near the office door catches my eye. Could it be blood?

My heart races as I grab a knife and approach the door.

“Hello?” My voice trembles. “I’m armed!”

Silence meets my call.

I push the door open, readying myself.

“HELP ME!”

My heart skips as Bruce, bleeding profusely, clutches at my leg.

“Damn,” I mutter, lowering the knife to assist him. “What’s happened?”

He attempts to speak, but only a choked sound escapes.

It dawns on me then—his throat has been gruesomely cut.

“Oh no,” I whisper, hastily fashioning a makeshift bandage from my shirt to stem the bleeding.

The blood doesn’t stop.

His wound is grave.

“Bruce, I’ll call for help,” I assure him. “But you need to indicate yes or no. Can you do that for me?”

He responds with more coughing, blood bubbling from his lips.

“Hold on, Bruce…”

As I reach for my phone, he weakly bats my hand away.

Seeing tears on Bruce’s rugged face is deeply disturbing. He seems to know his end is near.

Fumbling, he hands me a set of keys. “K…Kierra…” he gasps, his blood splattering my face. “The pool party.”

“What about her?” I probe, desperate for clarity. “What’s happening at the pool party?”

With a look of sheer terror, he utters his last, urgent warning.

“Quickly.”
