But there may be instances when you want to forego a machine altogether. Maybe you need to clean your carpet immediately, want to save some cash or would just like to give it a go to see if you can do it. Carpet cleaning requires patience and an attentive technique.\n</p><p><strong>The basic rules to cleaning carpet without a machine are:\n<ul>\n<li>Use cleaner or soaps sparingly;\n</li><li>Rinse away any solution used during the cleaning process;\n</li><li>Ensure the carpet is adequately dried. Trapped moisture may lead to mold or mildew problems or a damaged subfloor.\n\n<h2 class='\"\"'>Spot Cleaning Carpets Without a Machine\n</h2><p dir='\"ltr\"'>If you\u2019re lucky, you might just need a little\u00a0spot cleaning\u00a0here and there. For small and recent\u00a0carpet stains,\u00a0Two Maids &amp; A Mop\u00a0Director of Franchise Operations Lauren Bowen recommends a simple DIY method. \u201cFill a spray bottle with 1\/4 cup white vinegar, one tablespoon dish soap and water,\u201d Bowen says. \u201cSpray the stain generously and then blot it consistently with a clean towel until the stain is removed.\u201d\n</p><div id='\"article_nativo1\"' data-nativo-placement-id='\"1095012\"'><img loading='\"lazy\"' decoding='\"async\"' class='\"' wp-image-11622 aligncenter src="%5C%22http:%5C/%5C/echowoven.com%5C/wp-content%5C/uploads%5C/2021%5C/07%5C/unnamed-300x202.png%5C%22" alt='\"\"' width='\"428\"' height='\"288\"' title='\"\"' srcset='\"https:\/\/echowoven.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/unnamed-300x202.png' https: sizes='\"auto,'>\n<p dir='\"ltr\"'>When using a carpet cleaning solution or soap, be sure to rinse lightly with clean water to remove any remaining suds, then follow up with thorough drying.\n</p><p dir='\"ltr\"'>Keep these tips in mind:\n</p><ul>\n<li>Treating stains as they happen, or when you start to notice discoloration, is important. Cleaning and organizing expert Michelle Hansen, owner of\u00a0Practical Perfection,\u00a0recommends\u00a0Folex Carpet Spot Remover\u00a0for stain treatment.\n</li><li>Always test cleaning products and solutions, whether homemade or purchased, to make sure your carpet is colorfast. Do the test in a small, inconspicuous area and let it dry before you dive in, says Craig Gjelsten, vice president of operations for\u00a0Rainbow International Restoration, a\u00a0Neighborly company.\n\n<ul>\n<li>As you clean those spots, you might be tempted to add a little elbow grease. Don\u2019t. Light blotting is better than heavy-duty rubbing. \u201cRubbing a stain could cause it to spread or soak deeper into the\u00a0carpet fibers or fabric,\u201d\u00a0says Leanne Stapf, chief operating officer of\u00a0The Cleaning Authority. \u201cThis makes lifting the stain more difficult. Instead, you should blot a stain with either a paper towel or washcloth. The method takes lots of towels, so you may want to ask a friend or family member if they have some old towels you can borrow.\n</p><div id='\"ad60f705daa830c\"' class='\"ad' data-ad-slot-name='\"\/videoarticle\/content_1\"' data-ad-responsive-sizes='\"{"mobile":[[300,250],[3,3]]}\"' data-ad-targeting='\"{"tf":"btf","pos":"content_1","location":"top"}\"'>\n<ol>\n<li>Start by sprinkling\u00a0baking soda\u00a0over the carpet and vacuum thoroughly to remove loose debris. (The baking soda also works to\u00a0remove odors.)\n</li><li>Add two drops of carpet shampoo and warm water to a clean spray bottle. Spray the mixture over the carpet, taking care not to saturate the fibers.\n</li><li>Brush over the carpet with a\u00a0carpet brush\u00a0to remove any trapped dirt.\n</li><li>Blot the area with dry towels to remove as much moisture as possible.\n</li><li>Then fill a clean spray bottle with fresh water and spray the same area.\n</li><li>Use another set of dry towels to blot and lift the remaining moisture.\n</li><li class='\"\"'>Finish your cleaning by going over the carpet with a carpet grooming brush. Rodriguez-Zaba recommends\u00a0this rake-like grooming brush,\u00a0which can be used on cut-pile carpets.
