He refers to it as \u201cone of the oldest tricks in the book.\u201d The wire is twisted around the handle to make it harder to remove quickly, giving thieves and kidnappers an opportunity to strike.\n</p><div class='\"g' g-4>\n<div class='\"g-single' a-27>\n<div id='\"M837594ScriptRootC1539675_04a0e\"'>\n<div id='\"AdskeeperComposite1539675_04a0e\"'>\n<div>\n<div class='\"mgheader\"'>\n<p>However, it\u2019s essential to keep things in perspective. The \u201cwire trick\u201d was first mentioned in a Facebook post back in 2015. Canadian police, where the post originated, confirmed that no kidnappings had occurred as a result of this tactic. Organizations fighting against human trafficking have also not recognized the \u201cwire trick\u201d as a trend.\n</p><p>The director of the University of Toledo\u2019s Human Trafficking and Social Justice Institute dismissed these social media warnings as \u201cridiculous.\u201d He believes they are nothing more than urban legends or scare tactics.
