In the world of fashion, clothing sizes may seem like a confusing maze of letters and numbers and it’s easy to assume that similar-sounding sizes are interchangeable.

But now the internet has come to a surprising revelation – XXL and 2XL aren’t the same size.

If you’ve ever bought an item of clothing that says on the label that it’s your size, but when you put it on it doesn’t quite fit right, you may be about to learn the reason why.

Many people are certain that 2XL is just another way of referring to an XXL sized item of clothing.

Despite popular belief, 2XL and XXL aren’t the same thing.

Although it’s subtle, it’s important if you’re particular about how clothes fit on you.

To put it plainly, XXL is a bit bigger than XL in all dimensions and 2XL is a lot bigger, but not longer than an XL.

TikTok influencer @Samyra has over 1.9 million followers on the platform, and posted a video explaining the difference in more depth.

The XXL is a straight size that fits in a very uniform way, whereas the 2XL has a bit more give to it and is generally considered a ‘plus-size’ fit, unlike XXL.

So if you want something to fit you a bit more tightly and in a body-hugging kind of way, go XXL.

If you prioritise comfort and breathability, 2XL is the way to go.

Clothes that are labelled as 2XL are cut specifically with plus-size bodies in mind. This means they alter the pattern rather than just make the entire thing bigger.

People have taken to social media and reacted.

The reaction to the influencer’s clip revealed that there were plenty of people who weren’t aware of the sizing difference.

One viewer commented: “Wait I’m literally plus-size and I didn’t know this!”

“OHH that makes so much sense,” another added.

One other reiterated the point: “Yes! One is more focused on the stomach area and the other is focused on length.”

“Omg thank you, I’ve been wondering, I’ve got a short torso and never understood why the fit was off,” one other commented.
