During a minor surgery, a woman found that displaying her emotional distress cost her. Really.\n

@mxmclain on Twitter posted a bill showing she was charged for \u201cbrief emotion\u201d\n

On her medical invoice for a mole removal procedure, Midge claimed she was also charged $11 for \u201ccrying.\u201d She had been charged $223 for the physician\u2019s work for the mole removal plus an additional item \u2013 \u201cbrief emotion = $11.\u201d She was also given a $2 discount as a result of her shedding only one tear. The image of the bill was tweeted by Midge with the caption: Mole removal: $223, Crying: extra.\n

As soon as Midge shared her tweet, Twitter erupted with jokes about America\u2019s high healthcare costs.\n

\u201cHow long did you cry?\u201d One person asked. \u201cI just want to know the going rate.\u201d.\n

Another said, \u201cThis can\u2019t be real.\u201d. And to think I was just experiencing emotions for free.\n

Another said they would \u201cstart charging my children this way.\u201d\n

indy100.com reports that for people in Canada, the UK, Spain, and other places that enjoyed free medical care, being charged for surgery is puzzling. Thus, it shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise that people are shocked at the thought of being charged more.\n

Someone wrote: \u201cThis accurately describes the American healthcare system.\u201d.\n

\u201cJesus, I should have hidden my tears better.\u201d. \u201cI\u2019ll owe them a lot of money after I leave the hospital,\u201d another joked.\n

Another person concurred with Midge and said, \u201cThis really happens\u2026 I got charged extra for my first blood test because they decided to run my blood through a depression test I didn\u2019t authorize.\u201d\n

Midge told indy100 that she received a depression screening test during a routine annual physical and that she didn\u2019t realize it wasn\u2019t covered by insurance.\n

\u201cIt was basically 10 questions about mental health,\u201d she said,When she received the bill, she also explained that the charge wasn\u2019t for \u201ccrying,\u201d but rather it was coded to print as \u201cBrief Emotion,\u201d which is shorthand for \u201cbrief emotional assessment.\u201d\n
