He smiled and said he was trying to get to the dollar store about 1.5 miles away. It struck me that he might need something more than just a ride, so I offered to take him there.<br>\nAs we drove, I couldn\u2019t help but ask a few questions:<br>\n\u201cHow old are you?\u201d<br>\n\u201c93,\u201d he answered with a chuckle.<br>\n\u201cWhat\u2019s your name?\u201d<br>\n\u201cMike,\u201d he said, still smiling.<br>\n\u201cAre you married?\u201d<br>\n\u201cYes, to Doris. She\u2019s 94.\u201d<br>\n\u201cDoes she know you\u2019re out and about?\u201d<br>\n\u201cNope,\u201d he replied, \u201cShe probably hasn\u2019t noticed I\u2019m gone yet.\u201d<br>\nI was intrigued, so I asked, \u201cWhy are we headed to the store?\u201d<br>\nWith a warm grin, he said, \u201cMy wife and I have a little tradition. We share a Hershey chocolate bar every night before bed, and we\u2019re out. So, I\u2019m here to buy 30 Hershey Bars.\u201d<br>\nBefore dropping him off, I handed him my card and said, \u201cNext time you\u2019re low on chocolate, don\u2019t bother hitching a ride.
