I\u00a0met her family after we\u2019d been together a\u00a0year. SIL was actually the first. The very first time we\u00a0met she blurted out that\u00a0I have a\u00a0girl\u2019s name (Skye) and then proceeded to\u00a0laugh about\u00a0it. My\u00a0wife told her to\u00a0shut up\u00a0and stop laughing. It\u00a0didn\u2019t bother me\u00a0at\u00a0all back then. I\u00a0just laughed and told her there are plenty of\u00a0male Skye\u2019s around, even my\u00a0great grandfather who\u00a0I was partially named after. Some people have asked me\u00a0before if\u00a0I felt like my\u00a0name was a\u00a0girl\u2019s name and not a\u00a0guy\u2019s name and\u00a0I never minded.\n</p><p>SIL joked a\u00a0lot about my\u00a0name and our kids\u2019 names when we\u00a0were expecting our babies. It\u00a0got a\u00a0little annoying but you know, I\u00a0was able to\u00a0brush it\u00a0off and my\u00a0wife would cut off her sister and would tell her to\u00a0leave if\u00a0she went a\u00a0little too far which only happened once back then.\n</p><p>We\u00a0didn\u2019t see her a\u00a0lot for a\u00a0while but she got engaged last year and was around more, and seemed to\u00a0have calmed down a\u00a0lot. She joked that they couldn\u2019t use the name because she didn\u2019t want me\u00a0to\u00a0feel more like a\u00a0girl than\u00a0I already\u00a0do. My\u00a0wife told her to\u00a0grow up\u00a0and we\u00a0left. The next time we\u00a0saw her they announced Skye was the name they decided to\u00a0go\u00a0with. I\u00a0said cool. SIL said she was surprised\u00a0I was okay with sharing my\u00a0name with a\u00a0girl. I\u00a0told SIL her daughter wouldn\u2019t be\u00a0the first and\u00a0I wasn\u2019t insecure in\u00a0my\u00a0masculinity and\u00a0I saw no\u00a0problem with sharing the same name girls or\u00a0women.\n</p><p>The next time we\u00a0saw them it\u00a0was a\u00a0joke about putting both Skye\u2019s in\u00a0pretty pink dresses when her daughter is\u00a0born. We\u00a0stayed out of\u00a0her way for the rest of\u00a0that visit. Then she joked that\u00a0I had finally gotten embarrassed by\u00a0my\u00a0name and was using my\u00a0middle name because one of\u00a0my\u00a0uncles who always called me\u00a0by\u00a0my\u00a0middle name was visiting and she heard him call me\u00a0that. I\u00a0told her her how tiring it\u00a0is\u00a0to\u00a0always hear her dumb jokes, which aren\u2019t even really jokes like she claims, but insults directed at\u00a0me. She called me\u00a0sensitive and\u00a0I told her she\u2019s the person who hasn\u2019t given up\u00a0on\u00a0my\u00a0name in\u00a0over a\u00a0decade. I\u00a0told her everyone gets\u00a0it, she sees Skye as\u00a0a\u00a0girl\u2019s name, but she\u2019s not funny. SIL got mad.
