Frank Ifield, a music icon and a household name in the UK, who played pivotal role in the early success of the Beatles, has died aged 86.\n

The news of Ifield\u2019s passing was shared on the social media by his long-time friend, music historian and journalist Glenn A. Baker.\n

\u201cI just took a call from David Ifield, telling me that his brother FRANK IFIELD peacefully passed on this Saturday night, at age 86. There is so much to be said about this remarkable man, who had four number ones in Britain, three of them before the Beatles (who he had briefly support him in concert).\n

\u201cI Remember You\u00a0became an indelible hit all around the\u00a0world\u00a0and a perfect signature song. It topped the U.K. charts for 7 weeks.\n

\u201cThis is not the time to say any more than my thoughts are with Frank\u2019s brothers and his wife Carole and to say how fortunate I was to see him earlier this year. I\u2019m still gathering my thoughts.\u201d\n

He was born in Coundon, UK, in November, 1937, but his family moved to Australia when he was just 3-years-old.\n
Ifield showed love for music from very early age. At 13 years old, he got a guitar from his grandmother and started writing songs.\n
In 1959, he made the decision to move back to the UK, where he turned into a true sensation, with four of his hits topping the charts.\n
Ifield also performed in front of the late Queen in 1965 \u2013 at Royal Variety Show.\n
In 1986 he was diagnosed with pneumonia and doctors had a part of his lung removed, which affected his vocals cords and his singing career.\n
Ifield was inducted to the Aria Music Awards\u2019 Hall of Fame, and was presented with a Medal of the Order of Australia for his \u201cservice to the arts as an entertainer\u201d in 2009.\n
Tributes came pouring in, with radio host Luke Davies writing, \u201cVery Sad to hear that Frank Ifield has passed away. He was instrumental in the music scene during the 1960\u2019s. Although a bit before my time, I used to love playing this song on the radio\u2026 Sleep Tight Frank, I Remember You.\u201d\n
Columnist and close friend Pete Chambers shared his condolences: \u201cRiP to my great friend @FrankIfield we will always remember you, your legendary talent as a musician and above all your kindness as an extraordinary human being.\u201d\n
