While on the trails of Queensland, an Australian hiker made an unexpected discovery . The man made a decision to take a photo and eventually posted it on the internet, saying that it actually smells like a d:ea:d person.\n
In a recent Reddit post, u\/aus556762 shared the photo and captioned it \u201cWTF is this? Smells like rotting fl:esh.\u201d It didn\u2019t take long before curious internet users started commenting.\n

The original poster (OP)\u00a0also added\u00a0that it was \u201chard to describe the sickly sweet smell of rotting corpses to those who don\u2019t have first hand experience already.\u201d In fact, he said he actually picked up the stench \u201cfrom about 1m out.\u201d\n
Netizens had mixed reactions about the mysterious creature, with one saying that it \u201clooks like something out of Resident Evil.\u201d Another commented that it \u201clooks like it belongs in the upside down,\u201d referencing the hit sci-fi horror Netflix series Stranger Things.\n

In the mean time, there are others who immediately recognized the creature and wrote:\n

Eventually, Brett Summerel, Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens chief botanist and research director, confirmed that the creature is a \u2018starfish fungus\u2019 which has the scientific name Aseroe Rubra.\n
