Only three miles from the Prince and Princess of Wales’ estate is the amazing mansion where Rose Hanbury, Prince William’s alleged mistress, resides. The Palladian home, which was constructed in the 1720s and still looks amazing now, was designed by the best decorators, architects, and designers of the time.

There are rumors that Prince William is having an affair with Rose Hanbury. Following a planned abdominal surgery, Catherine, Princess of Wales, took a leave of absence from public duties, which heightened rumors that the two were having an affair.

David Cholmondeley, the Marquess of Cholmondeley, is the spouse of Rose, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley. Only three miles from Prince William and Princess Catherine’s castle, Anmer Hall, the couple resides in a remarkable mansion in Houghton, Norfolk. At one point, Rose and David conducted a private tour of its magnificent gardens and immaculate interior.

Houghton Hall is a castle-like home that combines English landscape gardening and Georgian architecture. The home features fireplaces, niches, pediments, a black diamond-patterned flagstone floor, and busts created by Flemish sculptor John Michael Rysbrack.

Architect Colen Campbell designed the peach-colored hall in an Anglo-Palladian style. Thomas Ripley constructed it. Additionally, Sean Scully, an Irish-American artist, created a geometric glass sculpture in rainbow colors for the hall.

The elaborate grandeur of William Kent, a contractor, fills the staterooms, which are accessible to guests. Rose, David, and their three children also feel at home in the house because of the furnishings and picture frames.

Following King Charles III’s coronation, David was assigned a new position as one of the King’s Lords in Waiting. They like this house with Rose and their children, and the lawns feature a white deer and peacocks.

The spotlessly clean bathroom is breathtaking. However, given that the toilet paper has been kept in a bowl on the floor, which is really strange and humorous, one cannot help but notice Rose’s dubious choice of décor. The majority of toilet paper in contemporary bathrooms is stored on a wall-mounted roll holder.

Nevertheless, the telephone system, power, and pipes were all updated within. Beautiful vintage furniture and artwork adorn the bedrooms of the home. Some of the chandeliers are made of sewn fabric and are beautifully ornamented.

The halls are distinguished by their strong pillars and lofty ceilings. The spectacular stairwell is composed of a bronze reproduction of a Borghese Gladiator by Le Sueur from the 17th century, while the sitting area is flooded with natural light.

The family kitchen is located in one wing of the hall, while the chinoiserie anteroom and a charming picture gallery featuring images of historical masters are located in another. Since he lived here as a child and would come visit in the summer, Rose’s husband has known this house. Lady Sybil Cholmondeley, his grandmother, taught him about the house.

Rose also mentioned, “I was startled by the house on my first visit – it is so beautiful. I suppose I have learned a lot through living here and through David, who is so knowledgeable.” The first thing Rose Hanbury and her husband did was set up a family kitchen with large sofas, refurbish the nursery, and improve the children’s bedrooms.

However, Rose pointed out, “The house never felt spooky – you could sense that it has been well lived-in and loved.” Furthermore, the constant addition of art installations across the estate and inside the house keeps drawing visitors, offering new perspectives on Houghton with every visit.

Houghton Hall, however, exudes a sense of continuous evolution and occupation, making it more than just a remnant of the past. One of the surprises the owners keep finding is an unopened package of Sunlight soaps. But not all finds are happy ones, like a forgotten closet full of moth-damaged fur jackets. And the laundry room is overflowing.

In addition, David converted a large, fire-damaged chamber in the north wing that had been his sports-loving grandfather’s gym into modern, art-deco-style living space.

At first, David intended to live there with Rose after they were married. But when their family grew, the room became too small for them, and it is now used as a guest house.
