Sadly, some face challenges that prevent them from having children of their own.\n</p><p>Then there are women like Maria Carmen del Bousada from Cadiz, Spain, who face criticism and even societal judgment for their choices regarding when or how to have children.\n</p><p>In 2006, Maria made headlines when she revealed that she was pregnant with twins\u2014at the age of 66.\n</p><p style='\"text-align:' center>\u00a0 \n</p><p>Reports suggest that Maria, a retired store worker, sold her home to afford IVF treatment despite her age. To secure the procedure, she reportedly lied to doctors at a California fertility clinic, claiming she was 55.\n</p><p>Maria firmly believed that every woman should have the freedom to decide when to start a family, free from societal expectations or external pressures.\n</p><h3>A Dream Realized\n</h3><p>According to <em>The Guardian, Maria shared, \u201cOften circumstances put you between a rock and a hard place, and maybe things shouldn\u2019t have been done in the way they were done, but that was the only way to achieve the thing I had always dreamed of.\u201d\n<p>Naturally, her decision sparked mixed reactions.\n</p><p style='\"text-align:' center>\u00a0 \n</p><p>Criticism came from many quarters, including her own family. Some labeled her selfish. Maria admitted she initially kept her pregnancy a secret and that her relatives thought she was joking when she finally revealed the news.\n</p><p>In 2006, Maria gave birth to healthy twin boys, Christian and Pau, earning the title of the world\u2019s oldest mother at the time.\n</p><h3>A Tragic Turn\n</h3><p>Sadly, Maria\u2019s time with her sons was short-lived. Six months after giving birth, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.\n</p><p>\u201cThey\u2019re still babies, so I haven\u2019t told them,\u201d she said then. \u201cThey\u2019re too young for these things.\u201d\n</p><p>Maria\u2019s family stepped in to care for Christian and Pau as her health declined. I see them here often in town,\u201d Pinto said.\n</p><p>Adding poignantly, Pinto remarked, \u201cGod didn\u2019t let her enjoy her children very much.
